A male fell from a fifth floor balcony at Legacy Towers at approximately 1:50 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, Ames Police said. Sgt. Dan Walter said the investigation is still active.

According to a news release, the Ames Police responded to a report that a male had fallen from a balcony at 1:32 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 26.


(Updated 5 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 26):

The man who fell is a current ISU student, said Sgt. Dan Walter of Ames Police. Walter said the man was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. 


A man fell from a fifth floor balcony at Legacy Towers, 119 Stanton Ave., at approximately 1:50 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 26. 

Sgt. Dan Walter of Ames Police said an officer was flagged down by an individual and was at the scene of the fall in seconds.

Walter said the investigation is still active, with officers still at the scene after 3 a.m. Sunday morning. At that time, a few police officers were standing on a balcony on the south side of the building. 

In an interview at 3 a.m., Walter said he did not know of the condition of the male, whose name will not be released until his family has been notified. 

Walter said there is no suspicion of foul play.
