Simon Estes to perform in memory of Joey Wilgenbusch

Simon Estes, renowned bass-baritone, along with ISU faculty, students and alumni who are now singing professionally will come together for a memorial concert in honor of Joey Wilgenbusch.

Wilgenbusch graduated from Iowa State in 2005 with a degree in Vocal Performance. He then went to the Eastman School of Music in Rochester N.Y in order to obtain his Master of Music Degree. 

During his professional life he was a resident performer at Quisisana Resort in Maine through 2008-2009. in 2010 he was a finalist in the Lotte Lenya Competition, a prestigious music competition held at the University of Rochester. He toured with the ArtsPower children’s theater company in late 2010 and was a resident artist at the Ohio Light Opera in Wooster, Ohio.

He was born with a congenital heart defect, which required two surgeries during his childhood, which later ended his life in December 2011.

The show in his memory is scheduled for Sunday July 29 at 2:00pm. It will take place in Music Hall, in the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall. The first half of the show will consist of art song and chamber music, and the second half with hits from opera and music theater.

The cost is free, but free-will donations are accepted and will go towards establishing an ISU voice scholarship in memory of Wilgenbusch.
