26th annual Iowa Games begin just before Olympic Games

Teams made up of people from all different areas of Iowa compete in the Iowa Games Ultimate Frisbee tournament on Saturday, July 7, at the South East Athletic Fields east of Jake Trice Stadium. Iowa Games consists of many different sports, and the competitions take place in Ames each summer.

After the highlighted 25th anniversary of the Iowa Games in 2011, the annual “Olympic-themed” Iowa Games kicked off officially this past weekend.

Events such as the ultimate Frisbee tournament, the triathlon and strongman competition unveiled the 26th year of the Iowa Games.

The Iowa Games will continue through the month of July, landing in cities such as Ames, Ankeny and Des Moines. 

The Iowa Games have added three new events to the summer games this year.

Cory Kennedy, marketing and communications director for the Iowa Games said they have added a cycle gravel-grinder race, rugby and pickleball.
