Sierra will be taking advantage of the nice summer weather to prepare herself for a half marathon in the fall.

“The half marathon I will be training for is in Des Moines on Oct. 16. My target time is to run 10-minute miles,” Sierra said.

In addition to running on her own, Sierra will participate in the Bix 7, a 7-mile run in the Quad Cities at the end of July. She says smaller events like the Bix 7 will prepare her for running in larger crowds as well as condition her for the distance and terrain.

“I ran cross-country and track in high school, so I am excited to get back in shape,” Sierra said.

In addition to training for the half marathon, Sierra will also be taking summer classes at Iowa State as well as working at Parks Library to help pay for her races and living expenses throughout the summer.

“I’m just hoping I can do it, but I have confidence so we will see what happens,” she said.
