The ISU men’s golf team has earned a bid to the 2012 NCAA Bowling Green Regional Tournament on May 17-19 in Bowling Green, Ky.

Ranked No. 55 nationally by Golfweek, the Cyclones will be making their first regional appearance since 1999.

“We are really excited,” said ISU men’s golf coach Andrew Tank in a news release. “We have worked hard for this. We have a young team and they are very pleased to be able to continue their season. I want our kids to enjoy this, because it is special to be able to play in a NCAA Regional.”

The Cyclones are led by senior Nate McCoy, an All-Big 12 first-team selection. McCoy is ranked No. 54 in the nation by Golfweek.

“Nate has done such a great job representing Iowa State throughout his career,” Tank said. “It is really special he will have the opportunity to compete in the regional with his teammates.”

Iowa State is one of 14 schools that earned a bid to the Bowling Green regional. The top five teams will advance to the NCAA Championships from May 29 through June 3.
