ISU women’s basketball coach Bill Fennelly announced Wednesday that I-K-M Manning alumna and Des Moines Area Community College transfer Ashley Hagedorn will join the team as a walk-on for the 2012-13 season.

The Irwin, Iowa, native is coming off her second season with the Bears en route to being named to the 2011-12 All-Region XI first-team. Hagedorn also connected on 66 3-pointers for a team-high.

Iowa State hit 227 shots from beyond the arc last season as a team.

While in high school, Hagedorn helped her team win the state championship her junior year. She finished second in I-K-M Manning history with 1,089 career points and was the all-time leader with 442 steals and 364 assists as well.

Fennelly said he is excited to add Hagedorn to the roster and said she has always supported the cardinal and gold.

“She has always been a big Cyclone fan and after a good career at DMACC playing for Steve Krafcisin, Ashley decided to walk on at Iowa State,” Fennelly said in a news release.

The Cyclones added Assumption High alumna Melissa Youngblut as a walk-on in September 2011. She saw action in six games before being dismissed from the team in February.

With the addition of Hagedorn, the ISU women’s basketball roster now stands at 12 players for the 2012-13 season.
