ISU softball team swept to close season

Dalyn Varela’s ISU softball career came to an end on Sunday, but the senior provided fans with one final exciting moment in the finale.

Despite losing 5-1 and being swept by No. 3 Oklahoma (45-8, 19-5 Big 12), the Cyclones (14-39, 2-22) received some final production from Varela, as she blasted her second homerun of the season, going 2-3 to finish her career.

In the weekend’s three-game series, the Cyclones were outscored by the Sooners 22-2. Both Iowa State runs came on homeruns, with the other coming on Saturday from junior Tori Torrescano, her 14th of the season.

Iowa State won two conference games on the season, beating Texas A&M and Kansas in April.

In addition to Varela, the Cyclones will lose senior Lauren Kennewell.
