The ISU softball team defeated rival Iowa in walk-off fashion by a score of 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon. ISU junior Erica Miller played well for the Cyclones (13-28, 1-11 Big 12), including delivering the walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Iowa (17-22. 7-5 Big Ten) got the scoring started early, as Katie Keim and Liz Watkins both belted solo home runs off of ISU starter Tori Torrescano in the top of the second inning.

Miller evened the score in the bottom of the third with a two-run homer of her own. The blast was the 26th of Miller’s career, tying her for second all-time in Iowa State history.

Keim led off the top of the fourth with a double, but failed to make it around to score as Torrescano locked in to retire the next three batters.

The game remained knotted at 2-2 until the top of the sixth when Hawkeye Megan Blank, the Big Ten’s leading hitter, smashed a solo home run over the right field fence, giving Iowa a 3-2 lead.

The Cyclones loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh before Sara Davison tied the game at 3 with a single. Lyon was then replaced in the pitcher’s circle by Kayla Massey. Miller delivered the walk-off single in the next at bat, earning the Cyclones a 4-3 victory.
