Groups battle it out in Lip Sync finals

Greek fraternities and sororities hoping to win valuable points put their heads together in an effort to combine their skills for creativity, dancing and acting at Lip Sync.

Friday night, Stephens Auditorium was filled as members of the greek community and those on Greek Getaway shuffled in to watch Lip Sync finals.

Five pairings performed one last time attempting to wow the judges, hoping to take the crown. Masters of ceremonies for the night were Matthew Sheyko and Ricky Williams, Greek Week Lip Sync coordinators. The pair entertained the crowd with jokes and stunts in between acts.

“Pairings are judged on how well they can dance, creativity, how well their skit relates to the Greek Week theme, acting and their music,” Williams said.

For each performance, there were four judges. Coordinators start the search for judges in the fall. “We start as soon as we get the jobs, we basically figure out the type of people who will fit the resume. Usually we look for people with a dancing, theatre or music background,” Williams said.

During the performances, Stephens is filled with chants and cheers as each pairing prepares to impress the crowd and judges.

Not only are there judges to decide final winners, but also Greek Getaway students voted on a “people’s choice” winner.

The competition is especially important as a large chunk of Greek Week points are earned from Lip Sync. Doing well in Lip Sync often ensures a higher placing in Greek Week overall. The five skits earning spots in final cuts this year were:

Delta Zeta, Delta Tau Delta and Sigma Nu — “Diamonds are Forever at ISU”

Gamma Phi Beta, Sigma Phi Epsilon and Delta Upsilon — “Once upon a Greek”

Kappa Kappa Gamma, Phi Delta Theta and Lambda Chi Alpha — “Just a Click Away”

Delta Delta Delta, FarmHouse and Alpha Sigma Phi — “A Quest for Style”

Chi Omega, Tau Kappa Epsilon and Acacia — “Solar System Shakedown”
