The 2012 All-Big 12 awards were released Monday afternoon.

Junior forward Chelsea Poppens received All-Big 12 First Team honors, and freshman Nikki Moody was named to the All-Big 12 Freshman Team.

Receiving her first Big 12 award of her career, the junior forward Poppens was one of only three unanimous All-Big 12 First Team selections, which included Baylor’s Brittney Griner and Odyssey Sims.

This is Poppens’ first selection as an All-Big 12 member, after having a breakout season in her junior year. She averaged 14.5 and 10.9 points per game, which made her the only player in the Big 12 who averaged a double-double. Her 14 on the year tied her with Brittney Griner for the most in the Big 12.

Poppens had seven 20-point games on the season along with 16 games with double-digit rebounds. She earned Big 12 Player of the Week three times.

Nikki Moody took over the point guard position in her first season as a Cyclone. She was an ESPN top 100 recruit from Euless, Texas. In her freshman campaign, she averaged 9.6 points, 4.4 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game. She also was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week three times.

Moody is now Iowa State’s leader in assists as a freshman with 127. She broke Lyndsey Medder’s record of 108 earlier this season. Moody had 14 games this season with five or more assists and also tallied 12 games with double-digit points.
