ISU tennis team ends non-conference play with a loss

The ISU tennins team dropped another close match on Tuesday, falling 5-2 to No. 48 Stephen F. Austin.

The Cyclones (3-10) started off the match on the wrong foot, getting swept in doubles by the Lumberjacks (12-2).

Iowa State hung tough in most of the doubles matches, with two of the losses in doubles coming by two games.

In singles play the Cyclones got wins from freshman Ksenia Pronina and sophomore Simona Cacciuttolo. Both players won in three sets and were able to win close matches, which is something the team has struggled with this season.

The meet against Stephen F. Austin marked the end of the non-conference schedule for Iowa State. The team will return to Ames to take on Texas at 2 p.m. Friday and Texas A&M at 10 a.m. Sunday.

Pending the weather meets will be played outdoors at the Forker Tennis Courts or inside at the Ames Racquet and Fitness Center.
