ISU tennis team falls to No. 8 Texas 6-1

The ISU tennis team lost its third straight match Friday to No. 8 Texas, 6-1.

With the win, the Longhorns improved to 8-4 and 1-0 in the Big 12

The Cyclones (3-11, 0-1) started off by losing the doubles point, although the team got a win from the pair of Marie-Christine Chartier and Tessa Lang.

After starting out with the team down 1-0, senior Maria Fernanda Macedo lost in No. 1 singles to No. 75 Krista Damico 6-3, 6-4. In No. 2 singles, freshman Ksenia Pronina fell to No. 122 Noel Scott 7-6(3), 6-2.

Iowa State got its lone win of the day in No. 3 singles from sophomore Simona Cacciuttolo, who rallied after being down a set to win the next two 7-5, 7-8 (10-8).

In No. 4 singles, ISU player Meghan Cassens was defeated by Lina Padegimaite 6-2, 6-0 and in the No. 5 spot Jenna Langhorst was beaten by Texas’ Elizabeth Begley 6-0, 6-2.

Cartier won her first set in the No. 6 spot for the Cyclones but lost the next two 6-4, 6-4 to end the meet.

The Cyclones will play at home again at 10 a.m. Sunday against Texas A&M.
