The ISU men’s basketball confirmed Friday that two members of the 2011-12 squad are transferring from the program.

Center Jordan Railey and guard Tavon Sledge asked for and were granted their full release to transfer to other schools.

“We certainly appreciate the work and effort Jordan and Tavon have given our program,” said ISU coach Fred Hoiberg in a news release. “It basically boiled down to playing time for both of them. I had great conversations with Jordan and Tavon after the season ended and we mutually agreed that their chances for increased playing time would be at another school. Jordan and Tavon are great kids and we will do everything we can to assist them finding the right fit.”

Railey played a total of 38 games in two seasons at Iowa State. The Beaverton, Ore., native averaged 1.5 points and 1.2 rebounds in his ISU career.

The sophomore also made headlines for twice having scrapes with law enforcement. On Jan. 1, 2011, Railey was involved in a single-car accident in Boone County for which he was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated a month later. Railey served a two-game suspension for that; then on April 14, 2011, he was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct for an incident on Welch Avenue in Ames. Railey ultimately missed the first three games of the 2011-12 season while suspended for the April incident.

Sledge appeared in eight games in his only season with the Cyclones and averaged 1.0 points per game. The Spring Valley, N.Y., native caught fans’ attention at various times in the season with his ability to dunk while only being 5 feet 9 inches tall.
