Iowa State brings home three Big 12 event titles

The ISU men’s and women’s track and field teams wrapped up competition in College Station, Texas, on Saturday and will return to Ames with two women’s event titles and one men’s event title.

Junior Betsy Saina won the 3,000 meter run in a time of 9:14.20 as well as the 5,000 meter run (15:50.20.)

Saina’s 5,000 meter run title is the third Big 12 title she has claimed in that event. The Cyclone women finished tied for fourth with Baylor while Texas A&M won the team title.

On the men’s side, junior Rico Loy was victorious in the mile run winning in a time of 4:06.33. Loy finished fifth in the preliminary race but improved his time almost one second to go on to win on Saturday.

The Cyclone men finished ninth overall in the Big 12 with Texas A&M claiming the team championship.
