Democratic presidential debates begin Wednesday

The Democratic presidential debates are finally here. After months of campaigning, 10 presidential hopefuls will take the stage 8 p.m. Central time Wednesday in Miami, followed by 10 more Thursday.

Several candidates were left without a berth on the lifeboat the debates provide. Montana Gov. Steve Bullock, Massachusetts Rep. Seth Moulton, Miramar, Florida Mayor Wayne Messam and former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel. Their opponents who did make the debates will generate a wave of free media coverage.

Bullock will hold a televised town hall 4 p.m. Wednesday on WHO-TV.

Former Pennsylvania Rep. Joe Sestak became the latest candidate to enter the primary with an announcement Sunday, he joined the race after the qualification period for the first debates closed.

The lineup for the debate Wednesday is:

  • Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey

  • Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts

  • Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke of Texas

  • Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota

  • Former Rep. John Delaney of Maryland

  • Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii

  • Former Housing and Urban Development Sec. Julián Castro of Texas

  • Rep. Tim Ryan of Ohio

  • New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York

  • Gov. Jay Inslee of Washington

Warren leads all of the other contenders on the stage with her by a wide margin in national polling, though she is either in second or third overall in various polls.

The lineup for the debate Thursday is:

  • Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont

  • Sen. Kamala Harris of California

  • Former Vice President Joe Biden of Delaware

  • South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg of Indiana

  • Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado

  • Author Marianne Williamson of California

  • Rep. Eric Swalwell of California

  • Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York

  • Businessman Andrew Yang of New York

  • Former. Gov. John Hickenlooper of Colorado

Biden leads all of the other contenders on the stage with him by a wide margin in national polling. Biden also leads all of the candidates on the stage Wednesday.

The Story County Democrats are hosting debate watch-parties Wednesday at Jeff’s Pizza and Thursday at the Nevada Public Library. The debates will be broadcast live each night on NBC, MSNBC and Telemundo.
