Iowa bests Iowa State in rivalry meet

The ISU swimming and diving squared off against in state rival Iowa in the annual Cy-Hawk series challenge, with Iowa taking the meet 176-124 in a packed house at Beyer pool on Friday night.

In the 200 Medley Relay, Iowa State took first place with a time of 1:42.91 and a team composed of Dani Harris, Sarah Norris, Imelda Wistey and Amanda Paulson.

In the 1000 Freestyle, Meredith Doran finished third for Iowa State with a time of 10:18.05.

Kristy Kunkel and Sarah Dies finished second and third in the 200 freestyle with scores of 1:52.73 and 1:52.72.

Paulson again saw success as she finished second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.52.

Emily Wiltsie finished in first place for the Cyclones in the 100 breaststroke with a score of 1:03.57, while teammate Wistey finished third with a time of 1:03.93.

In the 100 backstroke, Harris finished second with a time of 55.98 and Bre Loeschke finished third with a time of 56.34.

In the 200 Butterfly, Elizibeth Kleiner finished second with a time 2:02.94 and Tiana Wollin finished fifth with a time of 2:10.55.

In the 200 backstroke Harris and Loeschke were the top two finishers with times of 2:00.06 and 2:00.97.

Wiltsie continued her strong showing for the day as she again finished first in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:15.31, breaking the pool record in the process.

Paulson and Britta Sortland were the top two finishers for the Cyclones in the 50 freestyle with times of 23.06 and 23.08.

In the 100 Butterfly, Sarah Norris finished fourth with a time of 57.18.

Kleiner was the lone place winner for the cyclones in the 500 freestyle with second place with a time of 4:58.44

In the 200 IM, Sarah Deis and Imelda Wistey placed third and fifth with times of 2:06.37 and 2:07.94.

The 400 freestyle relay was won by Iowa State with the team of Paulson, Sortland, Katie Vollhaber and Kleiner.

In the diving well, Sarah Nelson finished second one the 1-meter with a score of 275.32 while fellow Cyclone Jessica Nicholson finished third with a score of 272.09.

In the 3-meter, Nelson finished second again this time with a score of290.93 while teammates Jenn Botsch finished fifith with 247.57 points and Nicholson sixth with 243.23 points.

The Cyclones will be back in action Dec. 31 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., for the Winter training trip.
