Junior forward Chelsea Poppens helped the ISU women’s basketball team earn a 64-44 victory against Butler on Saturday. Poppens earned a double-double, finishing with 23 points and 12 rebounds, her third of the season through five games.

Poppens had help from her supporting cast as well. Freshman point guard Nikki Moody finished with 15 points. All of her points came from behind the arc, where she shot 5-of-7.

Kelsey Harris also had her jumpshot in rhythm. She hit on four of five 3-point attempts and finished with 18 points. Junior forward Jessica Schroll was the team’s top distributor, dishing out eight assists in the victory.

Iowa State (4-1) showed, once again, that it can be lethal in the second half. Butler pulled to within eight in the second half at 39-31. That’s when the jumpers started falling for the Cyclones.

Harris and Moody led an 18-5 run that essentially put the game away. Iowa State led 57-36 after the run with 7:17 remaining in the game.

The Cyclones were effective on the defensive end as well. The Bulldogs finished with a 34.8 field goal percentage and were beaten soundly on the boards, 41-22.

The Cyclones take on Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich., at 1 p.m. Sunday. Michigan is 7-0 on the season.
