The Government of the Student Body discussed funding helmets for the Iowa State Recreational Hockey Club on Wednesday night.

The club came through GSB during the Special Allocations cycle but did not get funded for helmets.

The group asked for $500 to fund 20 helmets.

“If we invest in the helmets, we need to invest in them properly,” said Morrissey, off-campus senator.

Speaker of the Senate Nate Dobbels was concerned about the funding.

Dobbels said the Recreational Hockey Club is a first-year club, and GSB does not fund first-year clubs because they might fall through during the first year.

By vote of 21-14-1, the bill passed.

GSB also discussed funding WinterFest, which is an ISU tradition that includes the annual campus lighting ceremony along with many other free and fun events.

The group is asking that $1,933 be allocated to WinterFest. The funding will be used for a hypnotist, the Underground, a Daily ad and a Residence Hall mailer.

By vote of 35-0, the bill passed.

GSB did not pass a bill that provided transportation inflation costs for Cyclone Ballroom.

The group asked for $217.90 so they could make up for the 5 cent increases in gas prices from when they originally planned the trip.

A bill that funded part of a trip to get the Flying Cyclones to Fort Worth, Texas, passed.

The group asked for $450 to attend a conference.
