The 6-1 loss at the hands on Kansas on Sunday marked the end of home games for the ISU soccer team this season as well as the last game at the ISU Soccer Complex. A new facility is currently under construction and is scheduled for completion in time for the 2012 soccer season.

A celebration also took place before the contest as the 337 people in attendance honored the four seniors on the Cyclone roster.

Seniors Amanda Cacciatore, Emily Hejlik, Amanda Mayberry and Mary Kate McLaughlin were escorted to mid-field by their families before the start of the match. After the game, coach Wendy Dillinger said that this group of seniors has provided valuable contributions to Iowa State and continue to play with a passion.

“Mary Kate played her heart out today, she always does,” Dillinger said. “I though Emily Hejlik did a good job on her responsibilities. Those two kids have done amazing things since they have been here. I thought Mayberry went in with a hard task and did well with it, and [Amanda] gives us a little bit of an element of speed up top.”

Each senior said that when looking back on their time at Iowa State and with the Cyclone soccer program, it will always be with fond memories.

“The last four years has been a lot of ups and downs, especially with coaching changes coming in my freshman year,” Cacciatore said. “We haven’t gone to the Big 12’s and hopefully this year it will change. The fans are awesome. They come back and cheer for us and keep us going. But the season’s not over so hopefully we can finish it out the way that it’s meant to.”

“It’s a family,” Hejlik said. “We’ve had great supporters, especially every Friday night, it’s an unbelievable atmosphere. There are so many memories and best friends on this team; I would call them my sisters.”

“It’s been great to have all of the support of our families and friends and this was the last game [that will be played] on this field, so it’s kind of special,” Mayberry said.

“It’s been very memorable,” McLaughlin said. “There is nothing quite like the college athlete experience. It’s been memorable, it’s been one of a kind and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.”

Dillinger said that the leadership that the seniors have provided to the team has been very valuable in building a strong program for the future.

“Those four have been great contributors for the last four years, great teammates and team players and have done a lot to move the program forward,” Dillinger said.

The regular season finale for Iowa State will take place on Friday against Missouri. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. in Columbia, Mo.
