Lorry’s Coffee to open in Campustown

Coffee is the second most-traded product in the world, behind crude oil. Lorry Ver Steeg knows this fact and is passionate about it. Along with Matthew Goodman, he’s opening a new coffee shop in Campustown next week.

“I just love Ames,” Ver Steeg said. “I’m very passionate about coffee and about people.”

He has managed other coffee shops around town since 1997.

Lorry’s Coffee will open in the previous location of Planet Sub, on Lincoln Way. In addition to a selection of coffees, it will have pastries, a small menu of soups and sandwiches, and smoothies.

Goodman said fast service will set the coffee shop apart, and Lorry’s will feature a drive-thru. Goodman, who is also a city councilman and is involved with many other Campustown standards such as Fighting Burrito and Super Dog, prides his restaurants on good service.

“Most of my businesses are based on finding good people,” he said.
