The Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau and the National Fire Protection Association are holding a vehicle safety training session in Ames that is specifically designed for electric vehicle safety.

Brittney Basden, a spokeswoman for Fleishman-Hillard, said the session will be held Saturday.

“The National Fire Protection Association is rolling out a program to educate the public on how electric vehicles and emergency situations are different and how to effectively respond to those,” Basden said.

She said there is a growing number of electric vehicles on the road because of an Obama administration initiative to put 1 million electric vehicles on the road by 2015.

According to Basden, Iowa is trying to be on the leading side of the issue, following Massachusetts and New York.
