Dean of Students Dione Somerville is a finalist for the position of Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, according to a post by the university.

Somerville is one of three finalists for the position. The others are Stephen Erwin, associate vice president for campus life and auxiliary services at Pittsburg State University, and Al Thompson Jr., associate vice president for student affairs and dean of student life at Eastern Washington University.

Each of the three candidates are holding community forums on the University of Wisconsin campus. Somerville held hers Friday morning.

Somerville has served as the Dean of Students at Iowa State since 2007. As such, she oversees departments such as the Academic Success Center, Disability Resources, Greek Affairs, Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Student Services, the Margaret Sloss Women’s Center and Multicultural Student Affairs, among others.

Previously, Somerville has served as the director of enrollment services/registrar at Lorain County Community College in Elyria, Ohio, and the director of student affairs and services at the Ohio College of Pediatric Medicine in Cleveland. She received her master’s degree at Bowling Green State University and earned her doctorate in higher education management at the University of Pennsylvania.

The news follows an announcement from ISU President Gregory Geoffroy in late March that he intends to leave his post no later than July 31, 2012.

Somerville was not immediately available for comment Sunday afternoon.
