Iowa State swimming and diving

The Iowa State swimming and diving team said farewell to 11 seniors after the 2010-2011 season and will enter the 2011-2012 season with 10 new faces on the team.

The Cyclones finished with a 5-5 dual-meet record in 2010-2011.

The team will be led into the new season by junior swimmer Dani Harris, sophomore swimmer Emily Wiltsie and senior diver Sarah Nelson, who all had a breakout season in 2010-2011.

The Cyclones are coached by Duane Sorenson who will enter his 15th season as head coach at Iowa State.

The coaching staff also includes assistant coach Kelly Nordell and diving coach Jeff Warrick.

When you attend an Iowa State swimming and diving event at Beyer pool, a program is provided for you with a list of the rosters and the events that will take place.

The Cyclones will host elite teams like the University of Minnesota in the 2011-2012 season.

The home meet that sticks out to the Cyclones and their fans is when they host in-state rival Iowa.

“If there’s one meet you go to all year, that’s the meet you go to,” Sorenson said.

Sorenson said many people have come up to him over the years and said that the Cy-Hawk swimming event is the “most exciting athletic contest they’ve ever been to.”

The home team in the Cy-Hawk series has won the last five seasons.

Sorenson said having a little bit of knowledge of different swimming strokes before attending a meet isn’t a bad idea, but there is really only one requirement to attend.

“All they have to do is have all their Iowa State cardinal and gold on and be ready to cheer,” Sorenson said.
