The women’s track team had a record-breaking three days at the Iowa State Classic from Thursday through Saturday.
Kianna Elahi placed first in the women’s 600-yard run with a time of 1:19.9. The mark broke a school record set in 1987 by 1984’s Olympic Gold Medalist Nawal El Moutawakel.
Junior Betsey Saina also placed first in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:50.74, which was the fifth-fastest time in the world this year.
Cyclone Dani Stack was about 22 seconds behind Saina placing fifth with a time of 16:12.08.
Freshman Hannah Willms placed second in the high jump (5-11.50). Danielle Frere placed second in the woman’s shot put (52-05.50).
Laishema Hampton also placed second in the women’s weight throw (65-04.25), breaking the school record by more than a foot.
Jenny Dillon did well in the women’s 800-meter run, placing third with a time of 2:23.47. Cyclone Britta Christofferson placed third in the women’s non-seeded weight throw (57-07.75).
