Cyclones find mixed success to open spring season

The ISU tennis team had a rough start to the spring season as they faced the No. 20 Arizona State Sun Devils on Friday. The Cyclones were swept in both doubles and singles play.

The team got a chance to improve upon their play Saturday afternoon when they faced off against UC Davis and Mesa Community College. They put up a much better showing against UC Davis.

Maria Macedo defeated UC Davis’s Dahra Zamudio 6-3, 6-0, while her teammate Tessa Long was in the middle of a tough match against Ellie Edles. Long won in three, 6-3,2-6, 7-6.

The Cyclones tried out some new doubles parings during the match, one of which worked out well.

Jenna Langhorst and Simona Cacciuttolo topped Dahra Zamudio and Nicole Koehly of UC-Davis 8-6. It could be a dynamic pair for the Cyclones in coming matches.

The Cyclones lost a close one to UC Davis, who won four out of the seven games.

The Cyclones saved their best performance for last, as they took on Mesa Community College.

The team turned it around completely from their opener against Arizona State as they swept Mesa 7-0. The Thunderbirds never had a chance as the Cyclone women finally hit their stride.

Iowa State will take on Oregon and Montana next weekend in Eugene, Ore.
