Cyclones close season in dramatic fashion

It was senior night on Friday at the ISU Soccer Complex, and the Cyclones gave seniors Ashley Costanzo and Jordan Bishop a game to remember, a 5-0 win over Missouri.

The Tigers came into the game 5-4 in the conference but Iowa State put the pressure on early in their final game of the season. A third minute goal off the foot of freshman midfielder Caitlin Graboski got the Cyclones off to a hot start. The goal was assisted by fellow freshmen Brittany Morgan and Emily Goldstein.

Iowa State continued to attack and it paid off again in the 24th minute when the freshman forward Morgan scored off a cross pass by freshman Jennifer Dominguez and Goldstein assisted as well.

Missouri put together some scoring opportunities as well in the box but wasn’t able to turn any into goals.

Iowa State led 2-0 at halftime and continued their offensive surge into the second half as Goldstein got in on the action again with a 54th minute goal to give Iowa State the 3-0 lead; freshmen Meredith Skitt and Erin Green assisted the play.

Missouri had a corner kick in the 76th minute that found its way into the box in front of Cyclone keeper Maddie Jobe but weren’t able to get a shot off.

Freshman midfielder Theresa Kucera caught a break in the 80th minute when the Missouri defense moved out of position. Kucera received a pass near midfield and took it in all the way to the net and after making Missouri keeper Paula Pritzen dive, scored the goal on an open net.

Freshman midfielder Emily Nowka completed the 5-0 win, flicking in the goal after receiving a cross pass from Goldstein. Kucera also assisted on the play.

Jobe played the entire game with the exception for 29 seconds that Costanzo was in for as she started for senior night.

The Cyclones end the season 3-7 in the Big 12 conference, one more conference win than last season.

Iowa State will not be attending the Big 12 Championships, which takes the top eight conference teams.
