Greek houses take on water

Members of various fraternities and sororities woke to find the basements of their houses flooded this morning.

Returning members of the greek community moved into their houses last weekend. Katy Kramp, president of Kappa Delta sorority, described the recent move-in as “fortunate,” in a statement released about the status of their house, because it allowed them to take control of the situation.

“We worked together as a chapter to contain the water and try to prevent more from entering our basement,” Kramp said. “We are fortunate and thankful for the amount of help and support we received from many other chapters in our greek community.”

Joe Wegelin, president of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, reported that his morning began with the discovery of an inch of standing water in his house’s basement.

“It’s really just a matter of getting the water out of the basement,” Wegelin said. “Our basement has concrete floors and concrete on the bottoms of the walls and the water hasn’t gone past that, so we have minimal water damage.”

Despite the inches of standing water the storm left in the basements of the greek houses, all fraternities and sororities that were contacted remained optimistic that formal recruitment and additional move-ins will continue as scheduled.
