Panchero’s fuels rivalry with dollar burrito promotion

ISU students are invited to square off against University of Iowa students in a new competition: burrito eating.

Panchero’s Mexican Grill, 1310 S. Duff Ave., will serve $1 burritos from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday. The same special will occur at an Iowa City location as part of a competition to see which campus buys the most burritos.

The company is doing the promotion to aid students in starting the academic year off right and to thank customers for support, according to a news release.

“Panchero’s is and always has been homegrown right here in Iowa, and our dollar burrito event is just one way for us to thank the people that helped us to get to where we are today,” said founder Rodney Anderson. “Now we are taking the promotion one step further by challenging students from Iowa and Iowa State University to prove they have the most Panchero’s fans on campus while saving money on lunch along the way.”

Local radio station KISS 107.5 FM will broadcast live at the event and give T-shirts to the first 475 customers.
