ISU basketball coach Fred Hoiberg announced the hiring of Matt Abdelmassih as the assistant director of basketball operations.

Abdelmassih worked with Hoiberg for the past two seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

“I have gotten to know Matt very well in the past two years, and witnessed first hand what a great worker he is,” Hoiberg said in a news release. “He is a very organized person and will make immediate contributions to our program. I am really happy he decided to join us.”

Abdelmassih’s basketball experience includes his aforementioned two year stint with the Timberwolves as well as being a student manager at St. John’s during his time in college.

Despite Iowa State’s recent string of losing seasons, the Brooklyn native said he was still happy for the opportunity.

“I am thrilled and excited to join Fred here at Iowa State,” Abdelmassih said in a news release. “I am honored to be a small piece of the puzzle to bring back Iowa State to national prominence.”
