Board of Regents discusses budget

ISU, UI and UNI administrators presented budget plans to the Board of Regents at an April 29 meeting in Iowa City.

According to Iowa State’s presentation, state appropriations have been reduced by $58.7 million since the start of FY 2009.

The presentation also discussed Iowa State’s plan to assign cuts differentially to colleges — between 4.8 and 6.1 percent — based on Iowa State’s strategic priorities.

Reorganization and elimination of departments and was also discussed, including “significant downsizing … of the sociology department.”

The athletics department faces a $500,000 cut, according to the presentation.

Final budgets will be approved at the Board’s June meeting.

David Miles was re-elected as board president unanimously at the meeting.
