WRESTLING: ISU wrestler arrested for public intoxication

Jake Calhoun —

ISU wrestler Andrew Long was arrested for public intoxication and possession of a fake ID at 411 Welch Ave. at 3 a.m. Sunday night.

An Ames police officer noticed Long, 20, leaning up against a wooden post on Stanton Avenue.

Long proceeded to run as the officer approached him, fleeing west through an apartment complex parking lot.

Long was then located by the officer on the 400 block of Welch Avenue.

The officer reported that she could notice a strong aroma of alcohol lingering on Long’s person.

Long was then issued a sobriety test and a preliminary breath test, where it was the opinion of the officer that he was intoxicated.

A New Hampshire driver’s license was found on Long’s person, prompting a charge of possession of a fake identification to be brought against the Cyclone wrestler.

Both Long and ISU coach Kevin Jackson declined to comment.
