Stars Over Veishea play for 2010 is “Guys and Dolls”

The production of the musical “Guys and Dolls” is set to perform at Stephens Auditorium during the week of Veishea.

Brad Dell, director of the production and assistant professor of music, is a big fan of the script. “Guys and Dolls” was originally written and based on the stories of Damon Runyon. Dell said that because Runyon has a strong and singular voice, there isn’t a wasted word.

“We got a bunch of gangsters who are utterly loveable, and then the women who they love, which is kind of what the play is all about,” Dell said. “The way that all the characters speak is so uniquely ‘Guys and Dolls,’ and so it’s really going to be fun to get the actors to kind of just embrace that and go with it.”

The music is going to be performed live by ISU music and theater students and will consist of a 35 piece orchestra. Songs include ones like “Lucky Be a Lady” and “Take Back Your Mink.”
