Enjoy New Year’s in Des Moines

A hot spot in Des Moines, the Des Moines Social Club will celebrate its first-ever New Year’s Eve with an event it’s calling “The Bash.”

“The Bash” will feature several performances — including Ames’ own Leslie Hall and Poison Control Center among others — along with ice sculptures, burlesque performers, aerial artists and DJ sets. The Social Club is also boasting a wealth of local celebrity sightings for the evening and a human ball drop at midnight.

The Social Club opened its doors this past year after founder Zach Mannheimer and artistic director Matt McIver moved to Des Moines directly from New York City. The two chose Des Moines over any other city in the nation after a search because no other city “has the energy, creativity and generosity that Des Moines has.”

The Social Club has become a center in downtown Des Moines for theater, music and all things art.

The New Year’s Eve party at the Vaudeville Mews embraces the modern age with an interactive lead up with Quick Response (QR) codes people can scan with their cell phones and connect with the event.

QR Codes are something people will find on the posters for the events, can scan with their mobile devices — your cell phone’s camera — provided they nabbed the necessary software first, then send in to receive a text with a link or phone number.

Sound nerdy? It’s not.
