Christian band Skillet to perform at Stephens

Anthony Capps

Christian rock band Skillet will perform Friday, Nov. 13 at Stephens Auditorium as part of the Awake and Alive Tour.

The Memphis, Tenn., based band was formed in 1996 between John Cooper, lead vocalist and bassist, and Ken Steorts, who has since left the group. Now, the band is composed of Cooper, his wife Korey Cooper, rhythm guitarist, keyboardist and vocalist, Ben Kasica, lead guitarist, and Jen Ledger, drummer and vocalist.

Besides traditional rock music, Skillet has ventured into different music genres such as industrial rock and symphonic rock.

Skillet has released eight albums over the past 13 years and has received two Grammy nominations — one for “Collide” and the other for “Comatose.”

The bands most recent album, “Awake,” was released in August and debuted at number two on the Billboard 200, which tracks album sales. Two songs from the album, “Monster” and “Hero” have been released as singles.

Also performing Friday are Christian rock bands Decyfer Down, Hawk Nelson and The Letter Black.
