HOCKEY: Cyclones drop first home game to Illinois 3-2

Iowa State dropped its first home game as they fell to Illinois 3-2 Friday night.

Jason Pacheco got the Cyclones on the board first with a goal late in the first period and the Cyclones took a 1-0 lead into the second period. In the second, Illinois scored three times; two of which were off a power play. At the end of the second period, Illinois led 3-1. Iowa State came out in the third period and scored 20 seconds into the period to give the Cyclones life.

Illinois would tighten up its defense to close out the game with a 3-2 win. Iowa State goalie Paul Karus saved 16 out of 19 shots through three periods.

Iowa State will take on Illinois again on Saturday night in Ames at 8:15 p.m.
