HOCKEY: Cyclones fall to No. 1 Lindenwood

Iowa State brought its perfect record of 6–0 into the weekend and came out of it with a pair of losses. No. 1 Lindenwood surpassed the Cyclones 5–2 on Friday night and 4–2 on Saturday.

In the first game, both teams were scoreless in the first period and it wasn’t until halfway through the second period that a goal was scored. Lindenwood struck first on a power play goal and never looked back. By the end of the second period, the score was 3–0.

After another goal, Cyclone goalie Paul Karus was pulled from the game and replaced by Erik Hudson. The Cyclones would score twice after the goalie change and then were put away on another goal by Lindenwood.

In the end, Iowa State finished 0/9 on power plays, while Lindenwood scored one goal out of seven power play opportunities.

Iowa State’s goals came from Derek Behrman and Brandon Clark. Karus saved 18 of 22 shots and Hudson finished out the game saving six out of seven.

On Saturday night, the game started out similarly. At the end of the first period, Lindenwood had a 1–0 lead. Iowa State came out in the second period and put up two goals, one coming from the power play. After the second period of play, Iowa State lead 2–1.

Early in the third period, Lindenwood tied the game and then closed it out by scoring two goals off power plays, giving them the sweep.

Erik Hudson played in all three periods and saved 28 of 32 shots. The Cyclones, however, did improve on its special teams. They scored one power play goal and didn’t allow Lindenwood to score on the power play.

The No. 8 Cyclones will take on No. 6 Oklahoma this Friday and Saturday in Ames.
