Girl, guys can compete in heels

Girls and guys will have the chance to race Thursday — all hoping not to break a heel.

At noon, Materials Advantage, an organization designed to teach students in materials engineering, is sponsoring Head Over Heels, a 100-meter race in high heels.

The race will be held under the skywalk between Howe and Hoover Halls. Students must provide their own high heels which must be at least two inches high.

The winner will receive a golden shoe and a cash prize. Cost for entry into the race is $10. Participants will also get a t-shirt.

The race is part of a scholarship fundraiser for a high heel design contest in the spring.

Emily Kuster, president of Materials Advantage and junior in materials engineering, said that although unlikely, she would like to break the world record for largest high heel race. The current record is 265 people and was set in Australia.
