SOFTBALL:Cyclones get revenge on Cornhuskers

Jordan Wickstrom

Two days after getting mercy-ruled by Nebraska at home, Iowa State looked to get its revenge traveling to Lincoln, Neb., to take on the Cornhuskers.

Despite another sluggish start in the first inning, Iowa State rallied to win the game 4-3, its first victory in Lincoln since 1995.

Nebraska’s Amanda Duran gave her team the early lead with a three-run home run in the first inning. However, those were the only runs Nebraska would score in the the game.

Iowa State responded with a run of its own when junior outfielder Kelsey Kidwell drove in a run with single to center field.

The bats of the Cyclones came to life in the third inning with three runs on three hits. Junior catcher Alex Johnson drove in a run with a double to right field. After having infielder Courtney Wray get thrown out at home, the Cyclones put together a two-out rally. Freshman outfielder Heidi Kidwell singled, scoring Johnson and infielder Amanda Bradberry and giving the Cyclones a one-run lead at 4-3. The one-run cushion was all sophomore pitcher Rachel Zabriskie would need as she went on to throw a complete game for the victory. The complete game was Zabriskie’s 23rd of the season, and the win was her 13th. The Cyclones improved to 20-24 and 2-8 in the Big 12.
