SOFTBALL: Freshman pitcher out with shoulder impingement

Freshman pitcher and first baseman Katie Harms has been battling a shoulder impingement all season.

“[Impingement] results from pressure on the rotator cuff from part of the shoulder blade (scapula) as the arm is lifted,” according to orthoinfo.aaos.org.

When Harms went to the doctor last week she was told she needed rest, which she got this weekend— she didn’t get any playing time as the Cyclones went 4-1.

“She didn’t play at all this weekend because it hurt, so we are just waiting to see what that is,” head coach Stacy Gemeinhardt-Cesler said.

Gemeinhardt-Cesler said there is no timetable for Harms’ return, and that she is day-to-day.

“Somedays she can do stuff, and some days she can’t,” Gemeinhardt-Cesler said.

Harms has gotten off to a bit of a rough start this season, hitting .105 (2-for-19) with the injury and she has yet to pitch in a game this season.
