WRESTLING: Cyclones rebound with a pair of victories

The Iowa State wrestling team got back on track Saturday in Fargo, N.D. with a pair of dual victories before the holiday break.In impressive fashion, the Cyclones (5-1) cruised to two shutout victories against the host North Dakota State Bison and Dickinson State Blue Hawks.In the first dual, Iowa State dominated the Blue Hawks 52-0, scoring bonus points in nine of the ten matches. Even more impressive was the five wins by fall put up in the match by the Cyclones.

In the final dual of the day, the Cyclones squared off against the host Bison. Again, the No. 2 ranked Cyclones performed to near perfection in a 42-0 rout, giving them back-to- back shutouts on the day.

Four Iowa State wrestlers kept their perfect records in tact when the day was done. Juniors Nick Fanthorpe (133 pounds), Cyler Sanderson (157 pounds), Jake Varner (197 pounds), and David Zabriskie (HWT) all collected bonus points in each of their respective matches to remain undefeated on the season.

The team will be off the mats from competition until Dec. 28-29 when they travel to Evanston, Ill. for the Midlands Championships.
