Judge considers trial of man who shut down UNI

WATERLOO (AP) — A judge is considering the case of a man accused of triggering a campuswide lockdown at the University of Northern Iowa with text messages.

Todd Younk, of Windsor Heights, is charged with misdemeanor harassment.

He was arrested last March after a female student reported that he planned to confront her with a gun on the Cedar Falls campus.

UNI sophomore Jennie Older testified that she received a series of troubling text messages from Younk after an argument with him.

The campus was locked down until Younk was arrested at his parent’s home in Windsor Heights.

Younk waived his right to a jury trial. A magistrate judge heard his one-day trial on Monday.
