Attorney wants Satterfield’s statements suppressed

IOWA CITY — An attorney for a former Iowa football player accused of sexually assaulting a woman on campus says state law supports keeping confidential his clients’ comments to coach Kirk Ferentz.

Ferentz testified last month that he interviewed Abe Satterfield and Cedric Everson after they were accused of sexual assault in October 2007.

Satterfield’s attorney says in a motion filed Thursday that his client had reason to believe comments he made to Ferentz and other officials were made under an advisory and confidential relationship. He has asked that the statements be suppressed.

Prosecutors have argued that the statements should be allowed in trial because they were made voluntarily and the officials weren’t acting as law enforcement.

Trial had been scheduled for a Nov. 3 — a new date hasn’t been set yet.
