DCI: Boone man pointed air pistol at police

DES MOINES (AP) — Authorities say a Boone man pointed an air pistol that resembled a handgun at police officers and refused to drop his weapon before he was fatally wounded.

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation on Tuesday said that two Boone police officers and a Boone County sheriff’s deputy fired four rounds at 27-year-old Seth Miller Sunday night. At least one of the shots struck Miller.

Miller died Monday at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

The DCI says Miller pointed the pistol at officers and refused to lower the weapon despite repeated requests.

None of the officers was injured in the incident. The DCI says the investigation is ongoing.

An autopsy on Miller was scheduled for Tuesday.
