Texas roadtrip ends without a win for Cyclones

After a weekend in Texas, Iowa State still has yet to win a Big 12 Conference game, however, the Cyclones did come home with their first point in conference play.

The Cyclones (4-7-1, 0-3-1 in the Big 12) started out the weekend with a 0-0 tie against Baylor on Friday night and ended with a 2-1 loss against seventh-ranked Texas on Sunday.

Iowa State and Baylor were just about even on shots with the Cyclones holding a 15-14 advantage. Throughout the game, Iowa State outshot Baylor in shots on goal with a 7-3 advantage.

The Cyclones’ Sunday struggles continued this weekend against Texas.

The Longhorns outshot the Cyclones 24-5 and had 10 shots on goal, while Iowa State had three.

Iowa State got off to a fast start in the first half when forward Amanda Nimtz scored at the 18:52 minute mark, giving the Cyclones a 1-0 lead. The Longhorns responded six minutes later to even the score. A goal at the 63:24 mark put Texas up for good, 2-1.

Iowa State’s goalkeeper Ann Gleason stayed busy with eight saves in the game.

Texas also had an advantage over Iowa State with 11-0 corner kicks.
