The ISU gymnastics team trys continue its dominance against in-state rival Iowa on Friday in Ames. Iowa State has won the last eight matchups against the Hawkeyes and 27 out of the last 28.

Iowa has not won a meet in Ames since 1993. Since that matchup, the Cyclones have won 14 straight home meets against their rivals to the east.

Although the Cyclones have a long winning streak against Iowa, they are still searching for their first win of the season. They are 0-5, but all five losses have come against teams currently ranked in the top 25.

The Hawkeyes come into the meet ranked No. 24 and have a 4-3-1 record. In its last time out, Iowa tied No. 20 Ohio State.

This is the first of two meetings between the schools this season. The second matchup will be in Iowa City on March 9.

Iowa State is currently 0-3 in the Big 12 and in last place among the four conference teams. Iowa is 0-1-1 in Big 10 matches and is currently in sixth place out of that conference’s seven teams.

The winner of the meet will be awarded two points in the Cy-Hawk Series.

Iowa State currently leads the Cy-Hawk series, 16-5, with three events remaining. Each school has won two Cy-Hawk series.

Iowa can still earn points, but cannot beat Iowa State, which has already won the annual competition.

Iowa State is 46-21 all-time against Iowa dating back to their first meeting in 1971.

The Cyclones return home after falling to Oklahoma on the road. The team has posted its two highest scores of the season in its last two meets.

Friday’s meet with Iowa will start at 7 p.m. at Hilton Coliseum.
