Former Iowa State head coach and player Fred Hoiberg has found a new place to call home.

Nebraska fired coach Tim Miles on Tuesday by Saturday had named Hoiberg as his replacement.

An Ames native, Hoiberg played at Iowa State from 1991-95 under coaches Johnny Orr and Tim Floyd. He played 10 years in the NBA for three different teams before retiring after the 2004-05 season.

Hoiberg worked in the Minnesota Timberwolves’ front office before returning to Ames in 2010-11 to coach Iowa State. In five years at the helm for the Cyclones, Hoiberg went 115-56, won two Big 12 Tournament titles and led Iowa State to its first Sweet 16 appearance since 1999-2000.

After the 2014-15 season, Hoiberg took the head coaching job with the Chicago Bulls. He was fired earlier this season after going 115-155 in three-plus years.
