LETTER: Food pantry says thanks to everybody

I’d like to thank all of the volunteer groups, Ames businesses and individual donors for their generous support of another tremendous harvest of food for the Mid-Iowa Community Action food pantry through the Daily’s Stuff The Bus campaign.

On Oct. 5 and 6, the Iowa State Daily organized its fifth annual campaign of food, household supplies and cash donations for the MICA food pantry, and it yielded four busloads of food and supplies and $3,100 in cash. Food and supplies were collected through CyRide buses parked at Hy-Vee, Fareway, Cub Foods and Wal-Mart stores and unloaded at storage space provided by Ames365.com.

Other supporters of Stuff The Bus include KASI and KCCQ, Barilla, Alpha Copies and A&R Marketing. The effort involved more than 150 volunteers, including about 40 Iowa State Daily staffers, and, of course, food donations from dozens of Story County shoppers.

One hundred percent of these donations will serve families in need throughout Story County through the MICA food pantry, 125 S. Third St., in Ames. MICA greatly appreciates this effort, as the need for our food pantry remains high throughout the year. On average, the MICA food pantry serves 200 Story County families per month. This tremendous need can be met only through the year-round support of concerned residents in Ames and Story County.
