EDITORIAL: Detour to ClubFest worth your while

If you haven’t been to WelcomeFest in your time at Iowa State, you’ve missed out. The free stuff and mob mentality there make it as classically Iowa State as broomball.

But that was Wednesday – ancient history. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday in the Lied Recreation Athletic Center is ClubFest, Iowa State’s semi-annual celebration of what to do after class.

We endorse ClubFest as a great way to find new places to get involved on campus. After all, your college experience is more defined by what happens outside the classroom.

This is why we’re disappointed that it’s taking place on the afternoon of a football game. Sure, students will have time to visit it between their classes and still be able to make it to the game on time, but why would they?

A healthy number of students will be tailgating all day, and the rec is unfortunately located to stop by in the middle of the afternoon.

The Great Hall may be off limits right now, but we feel this new location and time will have detrimental effects on an event that introduces students to all that Iowa State can be.
