Es Tas to open second location

Those looking for Es Tas’ tacos will soon be able to eat them at a second location. Es Tas Authentic Mexican, 120 Welch Ave., has been a staple bar on the Welch Avenue strip and will open up another location on Stanton Avenue.

Terry Cullen, co-owner of Es Tas, said he has wanted to expand for a while and had been eyeing Club 8 since the bar closed and left an empty building in Campustown. Es Tas will take the place of Club 8 at 216 Stanton Ave.

“We don’t have a whole lot of space on the weekends, and our kitchen is a little small,” said Andy Hernandez, co-owner of Es Tas.

Hernandez said one nice addition of the new Stanton Avenue bar will be pool tables, which is one thing their current location doesn’t have.

“It will have pool tables, video games, better air conditioning and more space,” Hernandez said.

Hernandez said the Welch location generally gets more foot traffic, with people coming in and barhopping. At their new location, however, they are looking to draw a crowd that hangs around and stays at the bar. He felt their new additions will help attract that desired crowd. He also said there will more beer on tap.

“There will be more options of alcohol, and we’ll have more room to keep different types of alcohol and have a higher shelf of alcohol,” Hernandez said.

Despite the new location, some things will stay the same.

“We’ll have the same prices and the same drink specials at both bars,” Cullen said.

To help kick off the grand opening of the Stanton Avenue bar location, Cullen said there will be a Corona party. He said they’ll bring in speakers and have great drink specials.

“If you’re on Stanton that night, you won’t be able to miss it,” Cullen said.

The new locations’ grand opening is Aug. 15.

Both locations will have interchangeable staff and employees, but the Stanton Avenue location will not serve lunch right away, and will probably not open until 2 p.m. Cullen said he started talking to Campustown Property Management about the bar in May, and they finalized the deal July 7.

“We’ll still have our $1.25 tacos at both locations,” Cullen said.
