Two Ames residents, former ISU football player Terrance K. Highsmith and Monica D. Irving, were arrested and charged with possession of heroin with the intent to deliver, said the Central Iowa Drug Task Force.

They were arrested on July 7 at 1422 Walton Drive, #106, where officers allegedly seized 5.5 grams of heroin along with packaging material, according to the release.

The Class C felony carries a maximum sentence of 10 years and a $10,000 fine, but the location is within 1,000 feet of the Ames Middle School, which could increase the penalties.

Highsmith, 23, is still being held on a $65,000 bond at the Story County Jail, but Irving, 21, was released on July 11, on pre-trial release.

According to the release, the Central Iowa Drug Task Force is continuing its investigation and more arrests are expected. Highsmith made his biggest contributions to the Cyclones in 2004, when he returned eight punts for an average of 9.5 yards, and caught nine passes for 31 yards.
